Tragic Irony
Tragic irony is the use of dramatic irony in a tragedy, so that the audience is aware that a character's words or actions will bring about a tragic or fatal result, while the character himself is not.
It's basically dramatic irony but since Victor is the narrator we know that whenever he says he will die that he definitely DIDN'T or else he wouldn't be telling the story. So when he says that the monster will come and kill him we can tell that he most definitely WILL NOT kill Victor. That makes us suspect from the beginning that someone else ( probably Elizabeth ) will die that night. |
