Tone
Tone is the overall feel or mood of a story.
Of course the tone of Frankenstein is depressing, ominous and, since it's told by Victor, regretful. The words Shelley uses are very melancholy. Doom, death, fear, curses and sadness all over the place in the story. It's purposefully , and sometimes annoyingly, despairing and hopeless. She wants the reader to feel the same as Victor does, and feels really really sad. |
Here's some sad music to match the tone of the book.
